As with any Homecoming session featuring military personnel, the time frames can get a little fuzzy. Hopping flights from overseas is a long process and the loved ones on American soil are often times sitting by the phone waiting for another update. Sometimes those updates come, and sometimes they don’t, due to things beyond control. This is what happened last night.
The M Family were expected to be reunited today sometime but when I unexpectedly got an email during dinner last night (around 7pm) stating that the flight would be arriving at 9:02pm (as in less than 2 hours) I got butterflies in my stomach for the family. Kristin said she was sorry and understood it was late notice and that she hoped to book a family session in the spring but I did her one better, I finished dinner and grabbed my camera and took off to the airport.
I cannot imagine what these families go through on a daily basis and I don’t try to pretend I understand. My husband is leaving this Friday and will be gone for the weekend and already I’m mentally preparing myself. I know it’s hard on each person on either side of the world and being able to capture that moment when they lay eyes on each other for the first time in months is joyous. It makes me remember to count each blessing and each day with my own loved ones.
Welcome back and thank you for serving our country, Mr. M!
