Happy Tuesday, blog readers!! It’s a gorgeous day here in Hendersonville and I thought I would showcase a beautiful headshot I ran across when I was editing this high school senior’s images. We did her entire photoshoot in the urban downtown area of Nashville and mixed with her awesome style and look, it was nothing short of amazing!

2013 Senior Reps | Nashville Hendersonville TN Senior Photographer

I am so proud to announce my 2013 Senior Reps for the 2012-2013 school year. As a Senior Representative, these girls will be my ambassadors and my “voice” in the schools (since obviously, I am no longer in high school! *tear*). Choosing the appropriate size art | Nashville Senior Portrait Photographer

When planning your custom session, it’s always important to evaluate the spaces where you want art hung in your home. There are many places to consider like your living room, kid’s rooms, hallways, and staircases. Check out this example to help you choose a size that fits your wall.

Are you a visual person (I am completely!)? Take some wrapping paper or butcher paper and cut out the sizes above. Use them as a guide (tape them to your wall) to see what looks best for your space. (hint: an 11×14 is NOT large enough above your sofa, especially if you want to show off those portraits you just took time to get!).

The good news, is, with my in-person ordering, we are able to chat about your spaces you are looking to fill, and I’m able to give suggestions. I always love it when clients bring in pictures of the spaces they are looking to decorate with their wall art, and always encourage them to bring in the measurements to their appointment.

Since I’m so used to doing senior portraits lately, this child session was a nice change of pace to mix things up. I enjoyed meeting Pierce and his parents this past week. What a joy this kid is. Sometimes, you find those images that speak to you.

This is one of those. It was originally in the discard pile of mine and it wasn’t until I was purging some files from my external hard drive that I saw this image again in it’s RAW form and it spoke to me… like called my name once, and then yelled at the top of it’s lungs to make sure I paid attention!! Swear. It’s not perfect but it exudes style and femininity and sass. Check out the posing, down to the tip of her fingers. The way the light pours over her and the creaminess of the background. I could hear this image calling to me and I knew it had to be edited immediately and went from the discard to the love pile.

Sometimes, it’s not all about perfection. Sometimes it’s about the moment and the way that moment speaks to you.

I’m gearing up for two senior sessions this week so what better time to showcase a few outfits? This week, I have chosen to base these styles off of a pop of color. Stressing over what to wear? Our second style for the day is another of my favorite looks. I first fell in love with this look when I photographed 2012 Senior Emily, last spring. I first met The Mitchell Family, we were waiting for their daddy/husband to arrive at Nashville’s airport for one of my Operation Love sessions. Since then, they’ve been wonderful clients and you may even recognize them from my bunny sessions last year. When they announced their newest arrival to me, K told me early on that she wanted me to do her maternity portraits and we scheduled this session MONTHS in advance. We were down to the wire, literally, because on the day of this session, the movers were at their house packing their things for their move.

I adore this family and their fun loving personality. They make my job as a photographer easy. This session included many picked flowers, laughs, and one stunning pregnant K.

Does it get anymore beautiful than this? (…and is it fair that she looks this great mere weeks from giving birth??)

Seriously! Look at that backlighting on the hair. Beautiful!!

Blair Phillips Workshop | Nashville Senior Photographer

This past weekend, I traveled back to NC to attend Blair Phillips Photography‘s Break the Mold Workshop. I went with one main goal and that was to learn how to better light outside images to be able to offer more variety to my high school seniors for their sessions. I think I succeeded.

Blair and his team are amazing. Blair is the crazy mastermind behind the camera. His personality is infectious and his style is unconventional but will blow you away. Suzanne, his beautiful wife, is the brains (no offense, Blair! ha!) behind the business. She handles all the editing, designs, and blinging out all the canvases. Adam is the main social media man, and in charge of crazy-awesome video marketing. Shana handles client communication, and is the cherry on top.

Upon walking in his breathtaking studio, I automatically felt right at home. They catered to our every need, were very organized, and answered any questions we through at them. They were very open about every aspect of their business, gave honest reviews of vendors, and earned a great deal of my respect for being able to achieve such success in this ruthless business after starting with nothing but a dream.

I have had the chance to play around with Ring Lights before and will be offering this look to my seniors this year. So excited to be the first in the area to offer this look, so if you’re wanting something different to add to your session, Real Promises Photography is your place to go!

One of my favorite sessions of the two day workshop was our Glam Senior Session! Check out Brielle’s tutu, and rocker makeup! Not too shabby for mid-day shooting, too! Those are some harsh conditions to shoot in so being able to achieve this rich color straight out of camera!

I also loved this one in black and white, too!

If you are looking for a workshop to get a better understanding at studio lighting, lighting in outdoor harsh situations, or marketing, Suzy’s Photoshop tips, and seeing how to run a successful studio, this workshop would be the perfect option. It comes highly recommended!

Fishtail Braid | Nashville High School Senior Photographer

I remember braiding my hair like this many years ago and I’m glad it’s making a comeback. I love the look of the messy fishtail braid on seniors and it’s super easy to transform into this hairstyle mid-shoot. Here’s a great tutorial from Forever 21!
